Here’s a fun set with Romanian glamour model Georgiana, photographed at Manchester’s Millwood Photographic Studio.
It’s a fantastic studio that I would recommend to any photographer. Every inch of space can be utilised for photo opportunities. Downstairs, the main feature is ‘the white room’ featuring a large expanse of white wall and infinity cove. Walk through a door into the next room and there are other sets to choose from. Upstairs, there is a large four-poster bed, which can be moved around on castors; a leather sofa and chairs; a piano; stone feature wall and colorama paper backdrops. Lots to work with and well laid out.
This set was shot on the four-poster bed, over which I draped some white netting. A couple of Bowens studio flash-heads were placed behind the netting, either side of the bed to create an even white backdrop (see lighting diagram). Georgiana was lit with two more Bowens flash-heads – fitted with a small softbox for the main light and a large softbox placed behind the camera position for fill.
Sometimes a prop, if used well, can add an extra dimension to a photograph. As a rule, I’m not a lover of cliché props such as ‘silly’ hats, cigarette holders, fans, guns, etc (I’m sure you know the type of glamour images I mean). But Georgiana suggested a pearl necklace and, as you can see from the photos, it added a fun element to the shoot.
