“I don’t want to rock, DJ
But you’re making me feel so nice.”
Robbie Williams ‘Rock DJ’

You’ll see in my archive that I’ve photographed Jay several times, to provide him with headshots and images to promote his singing career. He’s always good fun to work with.

For this latest set he wanted a ‘black tie’ look and brought along a new dinner jacket (DJ / tuxedo), complemented by appropriate dress shirt, cufflinks and pocket square.

Because we’ve worked together so often now, the ice has been broken and each shoot is more relaxed and seems to run at a quicker pace. Once the lighting is setup it’s just a matter of giving Jay a bit of direction when needed and letting him play to the camera.

I kept the lighting simple with a two-point ‘sandwich’ setup – a large softbox for main and a rim light from behind to give separation from the background. See lighting diagram below.

I used my 70-200 f/2.8 lens. Camera settings:
Shutter speed: 1/160
Aperture: f/10.0
ISO: 100
